Finding Time for Read Alouds

I love books.

I love reading books to my children.

And if you are anything like me, you have every intention of reading that stack of amazing books to your children. But sometimes, life gets in the way. Sometimes you start reading the book aloud and then you just can’t seem to find the time to finish it. Then the parenting guilt starts.

It’s ok. Let me talk you off the ledge. I have a solution to this problem.

Audio Books!

I love really well narrated audio books. Let’s face it, those talented narrators read the books better than I do! I especially love it when you have a British book and a British narrator or a book that takes place in the South and a narrator with a great Southern accent. It really makes the book come alive for me. Umm, I mean the kids.

So, how do I fit audio books?

  • After breakfast, while the kids are drawing or painting at the table.
  • In the car, while running errands.
  • In the afternoon with a cup of tea and a snack.

I try to aim for at least 30 minutes a day. Sometimes it’s more because the books gets to the really good part and your kids beg to keep listening.

Another bonus, I can have my hands free to do other things. It’s a great time to work on my handwork (embroidery, knitting, etc), nature journal or coloring (my favorite adult coloring book and pens).  Standard Disclosure:  This post contains some affiliate links. 1. This is great! Thank you. We live on an acreage quite a ways from town so audio books are a great way to pass the long car rides when we run errands and grocery shop. As a side note, I was able to find the audio books through my public library system as well.

    • Thanks for reading, Adrienne! I am happy to hear that your library has these, too. I love my local library. I tend to avoid getting audio books at the library because I almost always wind up with late fees, LOL!
